Productive Trip calls for the Right Clamming Equipments
A minus-tide plus a beautiful sun equals one perfect day to go clamming, provided you have the clamming equipments to capitalize. Make sure to hit the waves an hour prior to the lowering of tides. Then seek for the illusive tiny holes in the course grains of the sun. These holes must be at least half of an inch in diameter. The first to thing to check is if a living creature is present in side this holes. Stick a finger to it and if you feel movement right through it, then ? bingo ? you got your prospective catch for the day! Immediately, dig a larger hole and with full adrenalin, run after it before he snaps away from you. Note that these hard-shelled buddies are expert in burrowing into the sand.
If you?ve got all these in mind, then it?s time to gear up for the real thing. To start with, take a couple or more ?? dowel for this activity. These dowels are very useful clamming equipments; as you may use them to mark down the spots where you have spotted your prey. When you have stake all dowels, then you may set your parameters. Pour down a potion of your energy in digging right on the side of the ocean and hit the shovel beneath the portion where the edge of the dowel touches the surface of the shell. This is found to be one of the most thriving and efficient manner of digging for their hideouts. Place each and every dowel you have and dig them individual. Be careful and cautious when digging. You don?t want to bring home tiny pieces of shell, do you?
When a beginner tags along with your journey, you may want to let him use one of your good-ol-clam guns. These clamming equipments are clever tools and are just perfect for the newbie. While those who have been running after the clams for a long time already, handy clam shovel can just be their best friend. Note that the tubing of a clam gun measures about 3' long x 4" in diameter. And are made entirely by either metallic or plastic raw materials. It is fully-open at an end and is closed at the other rear end. You may notice a tiny hole at the closed end. Well, one thing you should know about clam guns, is that they do not really function well in location where huge gravel or rock are present. However, a much more expensive gun may be available at your favorite crabbing equipment, clamming supplies, and bait and tackle shops. Guns made of solid metal may cause you a whopping $60-$75 while reliable shovels may cost $6 each. Not bad for a worthy activity, right?
At the end of the day, digging and sweating out on your own is simply fun and way way cheaper than having to drive downtown to buy a posh gadget.
